Introduction To Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL)
The traditional incandescent light bulbs that we know have been
around for so long that most of us thought there was no other
alternative to lighting up homes. Yet, an alternative had been devised
as early as the 1890s. Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) are increasingly
becoming common, replacing the old incandescent bulbs. Their energy
efficiency (using as much as 75% less electricity than normal bulbs) and
long lifespan (up to 7 years) make them the ideal light fixture for
homes, especially in these times of environmental turmoil. The design
and efficiency of CFLs have considerably improved over the recent years,
evolving from the large tube-like structures that were slow to start of
the 1990s to the modern and user-friendly lamps that were fit for the
home. In the following articles, all the issues pertaining to the use of
CFLs have been described in order to enable the end-user to fully
appreciate this technical revolution and to make the most of it.
